Our Story
Andrew Agg, or ‘Aggie’ as he is known in the trade, has over 40 years experience in the antique restoration business.
Aggie started in the trade when he was 15 working at weekends in a small workshop in Bletchingly, Surrey. Here he nurtured his passion for classic furniture and grew his traditional skills in furniture restoration.
He then moved to Jersey and was apprenticed to a cabinet maker where his skill set continued to grow. He rose through the trade, moved back to London and ended up running the Sotheby’s workshop for 10 years prior to him setting up his own workshop in West Sussex some 25 years ago.
He is still however asked to return to Sotherby’s on a regular basis to maintain and french polish the boardroom table and the auction rostrums. He also runs one day restoration appreciation courses as part of the induction process for selected Sotheby’s staff.
In addition to full restoration and cabinet making services Aggie also offers for sale selected pieces from large cabinets and table through to writing slopes and interior design pieces.
sustainability
Period furniture was historically made or embellished with a variety of rare and exotic woods. Many of these are now even rarer and are unavailable or banned from import. Aggie has over the years collected and amassed a stock of these woods, from veneers to solid timber. Aggie is now able to use these as a sustainable resource for original timber.
